About this Item
This is the same Roger B. Taney (1777-1864) who wrote the infamous Dred Scott decision when he was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was always adamently anti-Abolitionist. At the time of this writing, he was serving as Secretary of the Treasury under President Andrew Jackson.
