STEAMER NEW-ENGLAND.—The board of examiners, at the head of which was Professor Silliman, appointed to investigate the causes of the destruction of that boat, have reported that the sole cause of the bursting of her boilers was the immense pressure of steam to which they were subjected through the negligence of the engineer.
The Steamboat New-England disaster occured on October 8, 1833. Thirteen people perished in the explosion off of Essex, Connecticut (about 50 miles south/southeast of Brooklyn, Connecticut, east of New London).
