- In the absence of pictorial representation of the wreck of the William Penn, I have substituted this, the Wreck of the Ship John Minturn, off the coast of New Jersey in 1846. This wreck, resulting in 38 deaths, was one of the factors that contributed to the expansion of the United States Coast Guard.
